January 2012 Members Meeting

Bruce White will give a presentation on his participation in a 2-week expedition to -4500 feet in Croatia during the Summer of 2011.

Personal Caving History: Started caving in 1992 in Indiana. I’ve caved in 14 states, mostly Indiana and TAG. I’ve also caved internationally in Canada, Mexico, Malaysia (Borneo) and Croata.

Caving Interests: Currently I’m interested in international caving, original exploration, and survey. I especially love vertical caving.

Pt. Resistance Cave, Pt. Reyes National Seashore, CA

POSTPONED
Due to a series of winter storms coming ashore starting on Thursday (Jan. 16) and extending to next Wednesday (Jan. 25) we are postponing this trip.  The rain will not be an event breaker, but the accompanying surf conditions will be.
IF you are interested in coming along on this only slightly insane trip, please contact Bruce via email (SFBC members can find Bruce’s email in the roster) or you can post back to the contact form below and we will keep you on the short list . . .
Cheers,
 Bruce & Pat

SFBC 2012 Trip Calendar

Thank you to all who made it to the January 2012 Trip Planning meeting. We had a wonderful dinner by our amazing hosts and enjoyed a timely meeting with lots of trips planned for 2012!

The updated calendar can be viewed here:
http://members.sfbaycaving.org/calendar/

The username and password is the same for 2011 as of now. However, in February/March, this will change! So please renew with our Treasurer or hit up this PDF file here:
http://blog.sfbaycaving.org/join/

In the future, we will try to incorporate an online registration/renewal feature using Paypal where you can join using your credit card over the internet.

Lastly, if you are savvy and want to incorporate the SFBC Calendar into your google calendar, members are welcome to add chair.sfbc@gmail.com to their calendars. I will cross-check with the members roster and add you accordingly. (This is subject to change so no guarantees)

Annoucement: January 2012 Planning Meeting

Hi Everyone, as the meeting comes closer and the weekend draws near, I have a bit of a homework for grotto members for the upcoming trip planning meeting as well as a special request. (This is what you get for rolling me into office…HOMEWORK)

1) Please list all the caves you are interested in going to in California (or abroad!) Caves you have been to and caves you have never been to are great. This is your chance to speak up on caves you wish to explore, conserve, map, survey, sleep in, you name it! – Write on paper and bring to meeting.

2) State at the meeting whether or not you’re willing to lead trips along with which trip/cave you’d like to lead. We’re in need of some hardcore, bad@$$, Metal Gear Solid leaders to lead Type 2 fun caves trips that rival those during the Heltsley administration. (cheap stab I know…)

Special Request: Does anyone have a projector I can use for my laptop at this meeting? I’d like to project the trip calendar as well as a spreadsheet of the caves + trips for all to see. We used to use a big white board (which I have and can bring) but I feel a laptop with projector would be most useful. Please email me if you have one that I can use for the meeting!

Transparent Administration:
– MLG Grotto Calendar was sent to me (thank you) and I updated the SFBC Calendar to include it
– Waiting for CRF calendar which will most likely be sent Saturday and updated on the calendar before Tues
– Diablo Grotto will have their trip planning on the Thursday after our meeting thus we will share our calendar with them should they want to plan around our trips
– Beta run of blog/news announcement wordpress to be integrated with the website eventually at (http://blog.sfbaycaving.org/) I’ll be working with Kelley on something to put the two together.

Thanks and I look forward to having a fun and productive meeting!

Caver Happy Hour in SF

Seems like it might be time to start up caver meetups in San Francisco again, for those of us who don’t venture down to San Carlos for meetings as often as we’d like to. It won’t be monthly, but maybe once a quarter or so.
Bring photos from a recent caving trip or just stop by to say hello and plan your next trip. Mark and I can tell about our trip into the deepest cave in Canada and failed attempt at cave camping. Come by anytime after 6pm. There will be homebrew IPA, wine and snacks.

Location: Mark & Elaine Scott’s house (415) 894-2283
