Welcome to the San Francisco Bay Chapter of the National Speleological Society

sfbc_patch_rgbWe love to explore, study, and promote the conservation and preservation of caves as a non-profit internal organization of the NSS (National Speleological Society). We explore caves, hold monthly vertical rope technique practices, and support various caving related activities.

Meetings

Chapter meetings are traditionally held on the 4th Tuesday of each month* at Movement Climbing Gym (used to be Planet Granite) in Belmont at 8:30PM.  We also host all meetings online via Zoom (or other group-chat-video-call app). Watch our mailing list for the meeting URLs to be announced prior to each meeting.

Meetings start with introductions, meet and greet, leading to a 30 minute presentation, and end with member caving trip reports at around 9PM.

Movement Belmont is located at:

100 El Camino Real,

Belmont, CA 94002

New Cavers

New Cavers interested in getting underground can subscribe to our New Caver list. Here you will be part of a growing team of new cavers who know little to nothing about caving. Regular trips will be offered to this group throughout the year (at least once per month), training you to become a cave explorer. You can opt to learn more about caving such as mapping, surveying, and expedition project work. What you learn here will cumulate into a cave trip of the team’s choosing which may very well be a cave straight out of National Geographic!
