Vertical caving uses single rope technique (SRT) to descend into and ascend out of caves with pits or drops. It opens up some of the most spectacular and least-visited caves in California and beyond.
If you’re curious about vertical caving, the best way to get started is to come to one of our monthly vertical practices, where you can try a variety of gear and learn the basics of ascending and descending on rope. Practices are announced on the new cavers email list – sign up here to stay in the loop. No experience or gear is needed to attend your first practice.
Investing in your own vertical gear can be expensive, and every caver’s setup is a little different. We strongly encourage attending a few practices to try out different rigs before committing to a purchase.
